Floors

Floor/office

Many of the floors were uneven and needed to be straightened. In these places, they often used tiles from destroyed houses. In some areas, like Filippo’s office, cows used to eat from the floor, then later the space became a kitchen, and now it is used as an office.

Floor/foyer

The house was built on a rock, and not quite level in some places. Historically, buildings did not have what we now consider proper foundations, so during the renovation, they had to find a way to reinforce the foundation of the structure. To make it level, they had to build into the rock, which would help serve as the foundation. You can still see the stone outside the house. Inside the house, however, the areas that have been reinforced now have white plaster up from the bottom of the inside of most walls to protect and preserve the stone, which can otherwise be prone to disintegration from exposure to the elements.
